Hello dear readers, and welcome to the start of CamPlaysGolf. I started my golf journey in the middle of 2023 when three of my friends suggested the four of us should all play a round at Carnoustie Golf Course located in Port Coquitlam. I had been to a golf range once in my life, but had lots of mini golf experience under my belt, so I felt fairly confident. I shot 142. That round taught me things about myself I never would have found out about had I not picked up the clubs.

My goal with CamPlaysGolf is to inspire others to pick up the clubs for the first time and to keep seasoned golfers motivated in their journeys. Whether you are scratch or a 20 handicap, CamPlaysGolf is a place for you to find entertainment, educational tips, and to be up to date with all golf related news.

During my first round of golf, I don’t think I managed to get the ball in the air a single time. It was worm burner after worm burner, by the time I got to the green, I would be putting for double-bogey. It was an incredibly humbling experience for myself and my friends, and it revealed our true colours. None of us had gotten a par until hole 14, a 150yd par 3. I tee’d off first with a 4-iron in hand, and I somehow managed to land it 20 feet from the hole on the green. I carefully two-putted in my (and our entire group’s) first and only par of the day. I will never forget that feeling, it is what keeps me going.

After that round, I got home and set up my blanket over my closet doors and started hitting balls non-stop in my room. I wanted to get better, I knew I could if I just put in the work and effort. Fast forward 2 years to today, I just played the same Carnoustie Golf Course the other week and shot an 82. Sometimes I wish I had started CamPlaysGolf earlier to share my golf journey, but I realize that it has only just begun.
